Prerequisites: Be familiar with Raspberry Pi AND Python OR have taken the beginners pi camp.
We need a minimum of 4 students in order to move forward with this camp. Limited to 8 students
Our new camp will be a combination of the Advanced Python and Raspberry Pi camps!
This camp will have more in depth coding, building circuits, prototyping ideas, and learning electronics! During the camp, students will learn how to write more advanced code and begin to think like an advanced programmer and go home with interactive projects. Python will be language campers will utilize to write commands for the GPIO (hardware control platform). Campers will leave with Raspberry Pi 3, Power source, Micro SD card, Bread board, LED's, and an interactive electronic project built on the Pi. Are you ready to know more about what goes on inside of your computer? Campers will also learn more about their computers and more about what we can do with coding. You will be working with the latest version of Python 3 and writing your code in the IDLE programming environment.
Campers have the opportunity to bring their own laptop to work on. All of the software we use is open source and can be downloaded for free. If your camper does not have a laptop available we can provide a limited amount. Please contact Gaby Orozco in advance to reserve a lab computer. In this Basic Operations and Safety class, you will learn how to safely operate many of the woodworking tools at FabLab Tacoma including the SawStop table saw, wood drill press, wood band saw, wood miter saw, circular saw, and orbital hand sander.
You will perform various procedures on these tools, obtaining familiarity and expertise, and readying you for the creation of your next wood shop project.
Please register for the class online before the class date. If we do not have any registered the day before the class, class will be cancelled!
Class size is limited.
Laser cutting and engraving is a very versatile process used to cut or engrave numerous materials including wood, leather, acrylic, anodized aluminum, Formica, and even mother of pearl. It can also be used engrave and mark some metals, marble, and stone to create a variety of projects. The laser cutter excels even with fine, intricate work.
This class does not include 3D CAD design. This introductory 3D printing class will go over how to use the Makerbot 3D printers and the software associated with them. You will learn how to prepare a 3D model for printing, resources to acquire 3D models, as well as the programs available to create 3D models.
Please wear cotton clothing, a long sleeved shirt, long pants, and closed-toed shoes. If you already own any related safety equipment you are invited to bring it as well.
